Services
Flash Fiction Workshops: I teach supportive and generative flash fiction workshops monthly, often twice a month. Subscribe to my Substack newsletter, Meg Pokrass Microfiction Workshops for information and discounts on these classes.
“Meg’s workshops are gateways to getting published, for those who want to send their work out. Many of my recently published pieces began, or were polished, in her classes. She creates marvelous communities with gentle guidance, brilliance, and light structure that allow us the space to explore, discover, & create, which for me is the beauty and essence of writing. Her venues also allow us to meet other people, make friends, thru their work and their comments, as well, and read great work! To paraphrase the Dos XX guy, I don’t take many workshops, but when I do, I take them from Meg Pokrass. “

One-on-One Mentoring: Reaching Deep and Defining Accountability
Are you looking for a smart and caring partner to help you complete your collection manuscript? Has motivation been an issue when the world seems to be falling apart? Let’s bust through those issues together. Microfiction, Flash Fiction and Flash Memoir are my specialty. I have published 10 collections of flash fiction, microfiction, hybrids, six sentence stories, autofiction, micro-memoir. I have a broad perspective on what indie publishers like. My goal is to help you develop and eventually finish your work-in-progress.
Line Editing/Developmental Editing for Flash and Micro:
I love helping to make your individual stories glow. Send me your story drafts (one longer flash fiction or up to four 250-word micros per hour) at any stage of development, and I will help you craft your story into a publishable and memorable piece. Flash and microfiction are my passion. Having published 10 of my own story and prose poetry collections, as well as founding and editing the award-winning Best Microfiction anthology series over the past 7 years, I feel uniquely qualified in flash and microfiction editorial and will enthusiastically offer both line editing, support and guidance.
Testimonials
“Meg Pokrass is a transformative force for any writer of the short form. I turned to her for support on two separate projects with extraordinary results: my flash fiction chapbook, Combat Zones, won the Boudin Flash Fiction Chapbook Contest, judged by Roxane Gay, and my creative nonfiction chapbook, The Island of Ghost Ships, was accepted for publication by Finishing Line Press. Her editorial eye is surgical yet soulful. She doesn’t just edit, she helps you see what your writing is truly capable of. Whether you are writing fiction or CNF, her mentorship is the best investment you can make in your writing career.”
-Jamy Bond, Winner of the Boudin Chapbook Award, selected by Roxane Gay
Meg Pokrass has been instrumental in my taking my flash fiction career to another level. Her workshops are fun, filled with creative prompts and wonderful feedback. She also attracts really good writers as students and so I’ve been able to meet and work with many other flash fiction writers that way. Many of the stories that I’ve written and gotten published in the last year have been from Meg’s workshop. She is also an outstanding editor. She edited (helped me select and arrange order of stories, as well, as line-edit and come up with the title) my collection, Dressed All Wrong for This, which has just been selected as one of the winners of the 2019 Blue Light Press contest, and will be published soon. She is a flash fiction treasure.
–Francine Witte, Author of Dressed All Wrong For This (Blue Light Book Award Winner)
Meg Pokrass is smart, generous, and was endlessly supportive in responding to my manuscript. I am so glad I found my way to her. Her comments were specific, clear, and practical, exactly what I needed. Meg is smart and intuitive and gave me feedback on both the surface of my writing and the emotional underpulls. I love her enthusiasm and the range of her thinking. I’ve been telling everyone to read Meg Pokrass. Now I recommend everyone work with Meg Pokrass.
-April Krassner, Author of If It’s True (Bottlecap Press)
Meg Pokrass is an extraordinary editor. I was overwhelmed by the intimidating task of pulling together existing pieces as well as writing new work for my memoir. In a confident and reassuring manner, Meg helped me organize a writing schedule with actionable deliverables. Within a few months, I had a working draft. She then helped me edit the pieces resulting in multiple individual publications. I’m now in the process of submitting my memoir for publication, something a year ago that didn’t seem possible. Meg has my highest recommendation and appreciation.”-Jeff Harvey, Founder of Gooseberry Pie Lit
